The importance of managing a companys impact on the environment is becoming an important issue, with both national and local Government showing an increasing interest in reducing our carbon footprint. Lanarkshire Chamber of Commerce believes that over the coming year or so it will become more and more important for businesses to have an effective Environmental Management System (EMS).
Douglas Millar, Chief Executive of Lanarkshire Chamber of Commerce said that while many large businesses had been working hard to develop effective environmental solutions, smaller businesses have been left behind simply because they are unclear about what they should be doing. In recent months we have seen a substantial increase in the number of tender documents from both the public sector and the private sector that are asking about the companys Environmental policies. So this is becoming a real commercial issue that needs to be tackled by almost all businesses irrespective of their size.
The Lanarkshire Chamber of Commerce believes that while many owners of small business are concerned about the environment and are keen to take action to curb their environmental impact, they are unsure about what they can do as well as being concerned about the cost and the amount of time it will take.
It is for these reasons that the Chamber has joined forces with Komita Management to deliver the Managing the Environment for Competitive Advantage programme. This programme will take the form of a series of half-day workshops running over a 12-month period. Each workshop will concentrate on a specific aspect of creating an effective, business-focused, Environmental Management System. The programme is specifically designed to help participating companies through the process of creating an EMS as well as showing them how to use it to improve many aspects of their business, including their business image, their competitive position, their efficiency and, ultimately, their profitability.
Lanarkshire Chamber of Commerce is currently seeking ten companies to take part in a pilot programme comprising twelve half-day workshops run on a monthly basis. If your company would like more details please contact [email protected]
